Free Tutoring Services

Boys Moving Forward works in partnership with school districts throughout California to provide free, after-school tutoring to youth attending public schools. Our free tutoring services utilize a holistic approach to teaching all subjects and combine tutoring with mentoring. We not only provide support for the academic needs of every boy in our programs, but we also concentrate on addressing the social and emotional needs of the boys we serve. A typical program day begins with an upbeat self-esteem building, teamwork and empowerment activity for the boys; we then move to small group homework help and academic support, and end each session with a closing community-building activity. Our 5:1 ratios afford mentors the time to provide individual support to every boy and to develop strong, long-lasting bonds with each Boys Moving Forward boy.

Through a partnership grant with California school districts, Boys Moving Forward is able to provide homework help, academic support and mentoring for two hours each week to qualifying students. In order to qualify, the student must be on the free or reduced school lunch program, and he must be attending a low-performing school (please visit the CDE website to see if your school is in Year 2 or beyond of Program Improvement Status). Once you have determined if your student qualifies, you can request a Supplemental Education Services (SES) sign-up form either from your school office or from the district Title I office. List Boys Moving Forward as your No. 1 provider, sign the sheet, and turn it back into your school office as soon as possible. Our free tutoring programs fill up fast, so it is important to turn your forms in early!
